Lakers' LeBron James, Anthony Davis Joined By Knicks Guard In Sports Agency
KEY POINTS
- Allonzo Trier joins LeBron James and Anthony Davis in agency
- Klutch Sports Group has become one of the most successful sports agencies
- New York Knicks looking to adapt the 'former agent model'
LeBron James and Anthony Davis will be joined by New York Knicks guard Allonzo Trier at the Klutch Sports Group, the agency announced Thursday.
The sports agency added the undrafted guard out of Arizona, expanding its roster that also includes John Wall, Mitchell Robinson, Malik Beasley, Eric Bledsoe, Tristan Thompson and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope.
Founded by renowned NBA agent Rich Paul, Klutch Sports Groups has grown leaps and bounds since its inception in 2012. According to Forbes, “the agency has jumped more than 15 spots on the list of the world’s most valuable sports agencies” over the last five years, fixing its status as a buoyant home of sports figures.
The addition of Trier to the agency is an interesting move, to say the least. The Knicks have not gained any traction during the course of this season, being the 13th placed team in the Eastern Conference with an awful 17-38 record. Trier is hardly making his presence felt as well, having played in just 20 games so far this season and is averaging 6.0 points, 1.3 rebounds and 1.2 assists on 43.5 percent shooting on the floor, 32.6 percent from deep at 79.5 percent at the charity stripe.
The 24-year-old joining the Klutch Group comes concurrently with the Knicks’ hunt for a new president of basketball operations after owner James Dolan sent Steve Mills packing from his office. It is reported that Dolan is eyeing Leon Rose, a former NBA agent like Paul, to vacate the front office job as he tries to explore the model that has done wonders for the Golden State Warriors with Bob Myers and the Los Angeles Lakers with Rob Pelinka.
Rose will be up for a daunting task should he accept the offer to lead the Knicks who are in a relatively tumultuous state - much to the dismay of New York-based fans.
The Knicks franchise looks to start from scratch, with modifications likewise impending for a new head coach where Jeff Van Gundy and Tom Thibodeau are rumored as front runners to take the job.
