KEY POINTS

  • Lakers waives Troy Daniels
  • Work out with Dion Waiters to push through
  • Lakers not rushing to sign new player

The Los Angeles Lakers are not looking to sign another player, at least not yet. This is what head coach Frank Vogel told reporters after the Lakers waived seldom-used forward Troy Daniels Sunday ahead of the playoff eligibility deadline.

Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN first reported the development and said that although the front office is not rushing the hunt for a spot replacement, the Lakers will still push through in their meeting with Dion Waiters.

But the team made it clear, per the report, that signing the former Miami Heat guard is not yet a done deal just waiting for formality.

"As Vogel told reporters, Lakers have no imminent plans to add another player. They still plans to meet with Dion Waiters, per source, but now Lakers can react should an injury occur, or perhaps add another ballhandling guard/playmaker later. Rob Pelinka plans to take his time," Wojnarowski wrote.

Meanwhile, Daniels expressed his appreciation towards the Lakers organization after he was released from the line-up, saying that while the decision was a hard pill to swallow, he knows better things are yet to come as being in Los Angeles "changed his life for the better."

"Absolutely one of the hardest decisions of my life. But it was best for ME! I’ve been tested in my life before and I have came out the storm on my feet every time. What a pleasure it was to be apart of such a unbelievable organization of the Lakers," Daniels wrote.

"Being in LA literally changed my life for the better and I’m excited to see what’s next! To all my brothers on the squad yall know what it is. Good luck the rest of the way. Ima see yall real soon!" he added.

The seven-year veteran averaged 11.1 minutes per night with the Lakers and tallied 4.2 points and 1.1 rebounds per game while shooting 39.2 percent from the field and 35.7 percent three-point range.

Playing with a team - his sixth in the NBA - with a myriad of talent especially in his position was an obvious struggle for the undrafted shooter out of Virginia. With the addition of Markieff Morris and the Lakers looking out for the likes of Waiters and even J.R. Smith, it was just a matter of time for Daniels to be waived by the team.
