Los Angeles Lakers star Russell Westbrook promises to help Anthony Davis reach his maximum potential as he believes that his All-Star teammate has a lot more to offer to the team.

After their first official practice as a team, Westbrook commented on Davis’ on-court impact.

“He’s one of a kind. There’s nobody like him who can do everything he’s able to do at his size,” Westbrook said.

“He's been in this league a long time, so he understands how to play the game. He knows what he needs to turn up, and I know now he wants to turn up. So it's my job to make sure that's up every single night.”

The Lakers swung for the fences to bring in Westbrook from the Washington Wizards as they hope to capture the franchise’s 18th NBA title this season.

Davis, who was sitting beside Westbrook during the interview, also remarked on his new teammate’s comments.

“I like teammates who are going to push me,” Davis said.

“I want to be pushed. I want guys to tell me when I'm messing up. Me and Russ (Westbrook) had numerous conversations in this first practice alone about things we can do together as a duo when we're both on the floor.”

The eight-time NBA All-Star suffered a groin strain during last season’s playoff run and was seriously hampered in their first-round series against the Phoenix Suns.

Thanks to the Lakers’ early exit, Davis had more time to recover and focus on what he needs to get better at during this offseason.

Other than Westbrook and LeBron James, Davis named other teammates that continue to push him to be better including veterans Rajon Rondo, Carmelo Anthony, Dwight Howard and Deandre Jordan.

"I got numerous guys that are always in my ear about things, so you can't ask for more as a player who wants to get better,” said Davis.

Having a player who leans into his emotions the way Westbrook does will certainly be a big boost to Davis’ development as an even more powerful force in the NBA.

“My job is to make sure I continue to push him each day, each practice, each game, so he can be at the top of his game each and every night,” Westbrook stated.
