The Los Angeles Lakers' roster was shaken up just before the 2023 NBA trade deadline. The Lakers traded their highest-paid player and upgraded multiple positions around LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

Malik Beasley, Jarred Vanderbilt, D'Angelo Russell, Mo Bamba and Davon Reed were added to the Lakers' roster within 24 hours of the trade deadline. Russell Westbrook, Patrick Beverley and Thomas Bryant were traded off the Lakers' roster as part of three separate trades.

The Lakers made the first notable trade of the 2022-2023 season when they acquired Rui Hachimura from the Washington Wizards on Jan. 23. Los Angeles sent Washington Kendrick Nunn and three second-round draft picks in the deal.

About half of the Lakers' rotation in a typical game for the rest of the season could be made up of players who were on another team when 2023 began. The players who surrounded James and Davis simply weren't good enough for Los Angeles to make any kind of significant postseason run.

The Lakers are 25-30 at the trade deadline. Only two teams in the West have a worse record than Los Angeles. The Lakers are two games out of the play-in tournament and 4.5 games out of the No. 6 seed.

Beasley and Russell finally give the Lakers a viable backcourt. Beasley is a career 38% 3-point shooter. Russell is having the best shooting season of his career, averaging 17.9 points per game on 46.5% field-goal shooting and 39.1% shooting from 3-point range.

Vanderbilt could help improve a Lakers' defense that ranks 20th in points allowed per 100 possessions. The power forward is averaging 7.9 rebounds in just 24.1 minutes per game.

Westbrook had been viewed as a candidate to win the Sixth Man of the Year award. Despite his averages of 15.9 points, 6.2 rebounds and 7.5 assists per game, Westbrook's time in Los Angeles was nothing short of a disaster.

Westbrook reportedly had a heated exchange with Lakers coach Darvin Ham at halftime of the team's last game. There's speculation that Los Angeles would've stopped playing Westbrook had a trade not taken place.

Westbrook leads the Lakers with 52 games played. Beverley is fourth on Los Angeles in minutes played.

In seven games with the Lakers, Hachimura is averaging 11.7 points and 6.1 rebounds on 49.2% shooting.

The Lakers had been pursuing Detroit Pistons forward Bojan Bogdanovic up until the deadline. Los Angeles was viewed as the most likely destination for Kyrie Irving, who was ultimately traded to the Dallas Mavericks.
