Lance Bass reenacted Amber Heard's testimony in her ongoing defamation trial against Johnny Depp, and it received mixed responses from the netizens.
Bass joined the TikTok trend in which users reenacted Heard's testimony against the "Pirates of the Caribbean" star when she recounted the first time Depp allegedly hit her. Bass uploaded the video on May 16 when the trial resumed after a week-long hiatus.
"In honor of the trial starting back up ... Had to do it," he wrote in the caption of his since-deleted TikTok video, as per Variety.
"At this point, we’re sitting next to each other on the edge of the couch," Heard says in the voiceover as Bass reenacts the dialogue in his living room. "I was just sitting there on this carpet, looking at the dirty carpet, wondering how I wound up on this carpet and why I never noticed that the carpet was so filthy before."
Variety noted that TikTok got flooded with videos of users interacting with parts of Heard's testimony. Some clips were reenactments of the "Aquaman 2" star's testimony just like what Bass did, others featured users dancing to Heard's deposition and the rest were reaction videos mocking and criticizing the "London Fields" actress.
Bass removed the video after receiving backlash from other users who were offended by the clip. Some felt that he was making fun of the abuse Heard allegedly suffered, Page Six reported.
"Making fun of violence? That’s funny to you?" one commented.
"This trial is about domestic violence, emotional abuse and sexual assault. And this is what Lance Bass is choosing to do," another added.
However, many were entertained by Bass' video because he made them laugh.
"Lance missed his calling as a comedic actor!" one said with a laughing emoji, seemingly praising his acting talent after another user downloaded it and shared the video on Twitter.
Comedian Jenny Johnson also found Bass' since-deleted video, and she was amused. She even praised the NSYNC alum's performance, saying it was worthy of an Oscar.
"It feels like this Johnny Depp/Amber Heard trial has been going on forever and as if I needed another reason to love @lancebass anymore… _Then a hero comes along…_ Swipe to watch this Oscar performance —->," she wrote on Instagram, snagging the clip before Bass took down the video.
