Lando Calrissian's Child Confirmed In 'Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker'
“Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” witnessed the return of the character Lando Calrissian (Billy Dee Williams) into the franchise. While fans were pleased to see the administrator back helping the Resistance, we don’t know about what happened to him since the original trilogy, but it may have something to do with the new character Jannah (Naomi Ackie).
In the film, Jannah is first spotted among a group of rebels on Kef Bir to aid the Resistance. As a former Stormtrooper of the First Order, we don’t know much about her background, but the end of the film may tease her connection with Lando.
In an upcoming novelization of the film, it is revealed that Lando is Jannah’s biological father, according to ComicBook.com. Written by Rae Carson, the new book will touch upon a plot thread in the film uncovering Jannah’s true parentage. Just like Finn (John Boyega), Jannah was taken as a child to the First Order where she became a Stormtrooper. She deserted the militia after she refused to fire on innocent civilians.
The end of the film shows Lando asking Jannah where she came from, with her replying that she doesn’t know. Lando enthusiastically says that they should find out together. It left things unclear between the two, but some plot details were leaked months earlier revealing that Lando had a daughter who was abducted by the First Order sometime after “Return of the Jedi.” According to ComicBook.com, the back-story was only confirmed in the Visual Dictionary for the film.
Jennifer Heddle, an executive editor of "Star Wars" books for Disney Publishing, confirmed on Twitter that this story was supposed to be a part of the film but would make it’s way to the official novelization. In the non-canon material for "Star Wars," Lando ended up having a son named Chance.
It’s still unknown if a deleted scene related to this plot will be included in the home release of the film. However, Heddle did confirm that this is officially canon, so fans may just see a spinoff taking place with these two discovering their connection.
