The 2017 Las Vegas shooting, the deadliest in modern U.S. history, claimed another victim last week.

Kimberly Gervais died Friday, more than 25 months after attending the Route 91 Harvest country music festival. While an official cause of death is pending an official autopsy, Gervais had been struggling with spinal injuries.

Gervais, 57, had been living in a nursing home since sustaining her injury and had been taken to Redlands Community Hospital in Redlands, California, where she died after receiving treatment, making her the 59th victim of the shooting.

“Our hearts are extremely heavy tonight with this incredibly sad tragic news,” a Facebook post from a group made up people affected by the shooting read. “Our hearts, thoughts and prayers are with the family of Kim Gervais who became the 59th fatality of the Las Vegas mass shooting when her heart gave out over the weekend after bravely struggling from her injuries which had left her a paraplegic.”

On Oct. 1, 2017, shooter Stephen Paddock, 64, opened fire from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. He used several automatic weapons and unloaded over 1,100 rounds of ammunition. More than 500 were wounded in the attack.

While the shooting appeared to be meticulously planned, a definitive motive was never determined. Paddock took his own life after carrying out the attack.
