Is Lashana Lynch The New 007 In ‘No Time To Die’?
Given it’s the final Daniel Craig-led James Bond flick, “No Time To Die” may well sport a number of head-turners. From the introduction of a new, more sinister villain with Rami Malek’s mysterious Safin to putting a possible spin on the titular MI6 codename with Lashana Lynch playing a new 00-agent, Cary Joji Fukunaga’s forthcoming Bond outing may well be a vast departure from previous installments.
Revealed in an interview with Empire, the 32-year-old British actor attempted to remain as coy as possible when it comes to her upcoming role in “No Time To Die.” Appearing with a number of talented stars among the "No Time To Die” cast, which includes Lea Seydoux, Jeffrey Wright, and Christoph Waltz, Lynch most certainly holds a key role known only as Nomi thus far.
“I can say that, though the reactions to such a rumor have been varied, I love that the conversation is even happening,” she said of speculation that her character could don Bond's famed 007 title. “And I think that’s really exciting for long-running fans, new fans, but also young people that would potentially have that as not even an idea, as something that is just normal for them. That’s really special to me.”
While she remains as tight-lipped as possible about her new overall role in “No Time To Die,” prior articles, such as one from the Daily Mail in July, seemingly answers the question of "is 007 a woman now?" It also provides insight into her and Bond’s relationship. Bond, being a suave seductionist, attempts to corral her into bed, yet Nomi is all business.
Several fans may have been worried that the “No Time To Die” Bond would be drastically altered, yet it’s the very reason Craig returned to the role in the first place: finishing what he started. Lynch’s new character challenges Bond at his most critical point in life, wherein fans will witness the MI6 spy face both a villain of his past, in the form of Waltz’s Blofeld, and one in the present, Malek’s Safin.
“No Time To Die” sneaks into theaters on April 10.
