Last-Minute Gift Ideas For Christmas: 9 DIY And Budget-Friendly Gifts For Everyone On Your 2014 Holiday List
Christmastime is here! That means if you haven’t gotten all of your holiday shopping done, you’re probably in a bit of a seasonal pickle. But don’t fret. You’re not the first or last to procrastinate the winter ritual, which is why we’ve decided to compile a list of nine last-minute gift ideas for all those behind on their Christmas shopping. Below are the presents that will save you from making Santa’s naughty list and might even land your gift on the VIP (very important present) list on Christmas Day.
1. Baked Goods
If you’re in a pinch for a present, why not dash to the kitchen? Yep, we’re talking about baking your way through a last-minute gift idea. From a wreath made of cookies to tasty peppermint bark, your sweet treat will be the gift everyone craves.
2. Cash
This present may lack originality, but, hey, Martha Stewart said it was OK! During an interview with Bloomberg Reserve, the lifestyle queen revealed that her quick fix for last-minute gift ideas is going green.
“It wouldn’t be bad to give them cash. Especially for kids. They would be thrilled to go out and buy what they really want,” she said.
3. For The Coffee/Tea Lover
Grab a big, white mug and a sharpie to design a custom cup for a prospective gift-getter. Then fill the mug with some of their favorite things (e.g., packets of tea, honey straws, a gift card to their favorite coffee shop, a refillable K-cup or even a chocolate spoon!).
4. Hot Chocolate With A Twist
For your friends aged 21 and over, get a mason jar, fill it with hot chocolate powder and mini marshmallows and attach a small bottle of Bailey’s for a Christmas treat.
5. Gift Baskets
Snag a wicker basket then head over to your local Target, drugstore or place of your choosing. All you have to do after that is get creative! Whip up a theme for your basket then start buying. A spa basket might include scrubs, nail polish, masks and candles, while a wine lover's basket could be made up of wine, cheese, wine charms, crackers and so on.
But remember, it’s all about presentation! So, after your items are purchased, tuck them into your basket with festive tissue paper then seal the present in clear cellophane and top it off with a bow/ribbon.
6. Book A Winter Adventure
Has your significant other ever wanted to learn how to ski/snowboard? Why not schedule a lesson for the two of you?
7. Movie Date
Run to your local theater (or Costco) and purchase two movie tickets. Then scoot on over to a supermarket to buy everything a good movie night is made up of (e.g., candy, popcorn). The last thing you’ll have to do is make sure your film-themed gift is properly presented.
8. Car Wash
No one likes getting their car washed, so why not do it for them? Give your present-receiver a gift card to get their vehicle spiffed up! You could also include a few festive-air fresheners and a snow removal tool.
9. For Your Fitness-Oriented Friend
Schedule a visit to a cool fitness studio such as Orange Theory, SLT, Soul Cycle or Kettlebell Kickboxing for your physically fit friend. If the first class is free, then you could either grab the gift-getter a clothing item from the store -- who doesn’t love sporting Soul Cycle’s skulls? -- or a foam roller to help soothe their sore muscles!
