'The Last Of Us': Melanie Lynskey Claps Back At Adrianne Curry's Body-Shaming Comment
Melanie Lynskey responded to Adrianne Curry's remarks about her body as supposedly unfit for a post-apocalyptic drama.
In a now-deleted tweet, 40-year-old Curry shared a picture of "The Last of Us" actress and commented, "[H]er body says life of luxury not post apocalyptic warlord." The "America's Next Top Model" alum, added, "[W]here is linda hamilton when you need her?"
Unbothered by the shade thrown by Curry, Lynskey responded with a series of tweets explaining why the model's comments are out of place. She first shared a screenshot of Curry's tweet and clarified that the photo she commented on was from a cover shoot for InStyle magazine, not from "The Last of Us."
"And I'm playing a person who meticulously planned & executed an overthrow of FEDRA. I am supposed to be SMART, ma'am. I don't need to be muscly. That's what henchmen are for," the 45-year-old actress clapped back.
"Other than getting to work with creative geniuses who I respect and admire (Neil & Craig) the thing that excited me most about doing #TheLastOfUs is that my casting suggested the possibility of a future in which people start listening to the person with the best ideas," the "Yellowjackets" actress added.
Lynskey proved her point further by revealing how special her role is in the show.
"I understand that some people are mad that I'm not the typical casting for this role. That's thrilling to me. Other than the moments after action is called, when you feel like you're actually in someone else's body, the most exciting part of my job is subverting expectations," the actress said.
Lynskey ended her "rant" by thanking her supporters who showed her an "overwhelming and powerful" amount of "love and support" amid the criticism.
Meanwhile, Curry defended herself and said that her comment was not meant as a personal attack against Lynskey.
"i am so over everything anymore. actors cant allow people to not like their characters? I am DONE. we are not the things we pretend we are on a set or stage. its ok if someone doesnt like em. it isnt personal in the slightest," the model tweeted on Wednesday.
However, a Twitter user is not convinced about her words and replied, "Your argument keeps flip flopping. 'There needs to be separation' from the character and the actor, yet you are using a photo shoot of the actor separate to the character to criticise the character or the casting," the commenter said.
Meanwhile, the fifth episode of "The Last of Us" will become available on HBO Max on Friday.
