Late Chicharito goal sends Manchester United nine points clear
Manchester United went closer to a record 19th League title after Javier Hernandez scored in the 84th minute against Everton to send United nine points clear of Chelsea who play later in the day.
United dominated possession but couldn't create a clear-cut chance in the first half which ended goalless. Everton manager David Moyes brought on Cahill and Anichebe at half time, as the Toffees looked to snatch a point in their bid to claim European football for next season.
United continued on the attack, but failed to break down Everton's central pairing of Phil Jagielka and Silvain Distin. In fact, Everton had a penalty appeal denied when Anichebe was brought down in the box by Ferdinand.
As the game entered it's late stages, Ferguson brought on Evra, Owen and Giggs to secure the all important goal. And it came from their bargain summer signing. Antonio Valencia did well to chip in a cross from the right and El Chicharito drifted unnoticed at the far post to squeeze in a header.
Some may feel that Everton were unlucky given their defensive display. But United won't care. They're now nine points clear at the top with four games remaining. They need just two wins from those four to win the title. However, United will face challenegers Chelsea and Arsenal in the run-in and it makes for an exciting end to an unpredictable season.
