  • Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith graced the SAG Awards 2022 red carpet
  • Laverne Cox interviewed the couple and mentioned "entanglement" while addressing Jada
  • Twitter users shared mixed reactions to Cox's "entanglement" joke

Laverne Cox brought up Jada Pinkett Smith's "entanglement" at the SAG Awards 2022 when the latter graced the red carpet with her husband, Will Smith.

Cox, 49, who was co-hosting the E! red carpet ahead of the award show, interviewed Jada and Will. After the brief question and answer, she turned to Will, 53, who was nominated for Lead Male Actor in a Film for his starring role in "King Richard" and said, "We love you. Thank you for all the years of joy you've brought us," Page Six reported.

Cox then turned to Jada, 50, and said, "Thank you. We can't wait for more 'Red Table Talk' and more entanglements." Those following Jada should be aware of the significance of the term "entanglement" to her. It was a reference to her affair with singer August Alsina in 2015. The word went viral when Jada addressed Alsina's claim and refused to call what they had as an affair but instead referred to it as an "entanglement."

"No more of those," Jada responded.

"No more entanglements, no more entanglements! I love you, girl. I'm just kidding. I'm just joshin' you," Cox responded.

The interaction between the Smiths and Cox immediately garnered mixed responses on Twitter. Several laughed about it, while many called Cox "messy" for mentioning the word.

"Laverne Cox knows she's messy for that entanglement talk with Will and Jada," journalist Stephanie Guerilus tweeted.

"Laverne Cox is messy for sliding that comment in with Will & Jada," another user wrote.

"Laverne Cox bringing up entanglements while interviewing Will and Jada [rolling on the floor laughing emoji] boss move #SAGAwards," a different user commented.

"Not Laverne Cox saying 'looking forward to more Red Table Talk and ENTAGLEMENTS' to Jada and Will," another added with crying emojis.

In July 2020, Alsina claimed that Will approved of his relationship with Jada. He allegedly sat down with the "Gemini Man" actor, and they talked about the transformation of his and Jada's marriage to a life partnership.

"He gave me his blessing," Alsina told Angela Yee in an interview for "The Breakfast Club."

Initially, Pinkett's rep denied Alsina's claim, saying his statement was "absolutely not true." But in an episode of her Facebook Watch show "Red Table Talk" that featured her husband, they discussed the issue, and she downplayed the affair as an "entanglement." She also insisted that it happened when they briefly separated. Jada said she only wanted to help August's health and mental state, but it went further.

"From there, you know, as time went on, I got into a different kind of entanglement with August," Jada told Will.

Will pushed his wife to clarify what she meant by "entanglement," and she explained, "It was a relationship, absolutely."
