'Law & Order: SVU' Season 17 Spoilers: Detective Rollins' Mom Causes Tension At Baby Shower

Detective Amanda Rollins (Kelli Giddish) is nearing her due date on NBC's "Law & Order: SVU," and to help her get ready for the baby's arrival Rollins' mom Beth (Virginia Madsen) is throwing a baby shower. Unfortunately, the event doesn't turn out exactly how Rollins' would have wanted and her mom ends up embarrassing her in front of Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay).

In a sneak peek of Season 17, episode 6, posted by E! Online, viewers see Beth sipping away on champagne, flirting with Dominick Carisi (Peter Scanavino) and then telling Benson her daughter was hoping to land the job as her sergeant.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Beth is described as a "very protective" mother, but feels like Rollins "turned her back on the family."

"In theory, Amanda Rollins is her successful daughter," showrunner Warren Leight told the site. "[She's] college-educated, a detective, moved to New York, so of course the mother likes the daughter who has a warrant out for her arrest, has been involved with very sketchy men and has run her life into the ground. Beth Anne Rollins thinks that daughter can't make a mistake and Amanda has turned her back on the family."

Also in the episode, viewers will see another member of Rollins' crazy family: her troubled sister Kim (Lindsay Pulsipher), who is somehow connected to the detective's investigation of a rape.

According to TV Guide, the detectives will be working on a case involving a famous violinist getting raped by her colleague Anton (Zach McGowan). However, Anton doesn't remember the incident and claims he was drugged and robbed by a hired escort. A clue ends up leading the detectives to Kim.
