A photo leaked on the internet could be hinting at Nintendo and Xbox's plans for the year 2021.

A Twitter update and a video by industry insiders suggested the leaked photo had clues to what Nintendo and Xbox could be announcing this year. The leak also hinted the two-game consoles could be planning a new product launch for 2021, Comic Book reported.

The photo of Phil Spencer -- Microsoft Executive Vice President (EVP) for gaming and head of the Xbox -- has caught the attention of video game enthusiasts as some never-before-seen gaming stuff and accessories are visible behind him on the shelf.

Following the leak of the photo, speculations surfaced Microsoft could add Xbox Game Pass games to Switch. Gaming enthusiasts have been hoping for a new Nintendo Switch model for a while since certain Game Pass games are not compatible on the latter.

The photo may also be hinting at Microsoft and Nintendo's collaboration for a new game. This is considering the amount of support the software giant showed to Nintendo, such as publishing games like Minecraft and Ori and the Blind Forest, on its platform.

Jeff Grubb, a role-playing game designer and author of comics, novels and short stories, was among those mesmerized by the photo. In a video posted on April 9, the fantasy genre RPG designer discussed the "interesting items" on the Microsoft EVP’s shelf.

According to Grubb, "everything on Phil's shelf meant something incoming."

A Twitter post by Nick "Shpeshal Ed" Baker, XboxEra.com co-founder and XboxEra Podcast co-host, also sparked a rumor the two gaming consoles could unveil something new in the fall. The Twitter update is a reaction to Grubb’s video hinting at what followers will have to wait for.

Meanwhile, the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) recently confirmed the E3 2021 will run from June 12 to June 15, 2021. The event will be an all virtual concurrence, Slanted reported.

"We are evolving this year’s E3 into a more inclusive event but will still look to excite the fans with major reveals and insider opportunities that make this event the indispensable center stage for video games," said Stanley Pierre-Louis, President, and CEO of the ESA.

According to the report, Nintendo and Xbox were among the first gaming consoles to make early commitments in joining the affair.

Rumors suggested the main highlights of the event could come from Nintendo and Xbox. Gaming enthusiasts are expecting a Nintendo Switch upgrade, which will be powered by an NVIDIA chip. Game Pass and xCloud features are also among the list of anticipations.
