LeBron James’ Boss: In NBA Finals “We were the epitome of a team”
Miami Heat President Pat Riley said in his post-Finals press conference that LeBron James was the most unique player in the NBA and proclaimed that the Heat were not just made up of the Big 3 but were a complete team.
We would have never gotten this far without really sacrificing and playing roles and those veteran players accepting rotation responsibilities up and down, Riley said.
He continued, We were the epitome of a team.
The Heat lost to the Dallas Mavericks in six games in the NBA Finals. While Finals MVP Dirk Nowitzki shined for the Mavericks, the Heat's Big 3 of James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh folded in the clutch.
In particular, James played poorly throughout the finals in the fourth quarter, scoring only 11 points total in the first five games combined and only 7 points in Game 6.
Game 6 was particularly horrendous for James as he had a -24 +/-for the game, meaning the Heat scoring more with James on the bench.
Throughout the fourth quarters of all the games, it appeared as if the Heat players were all looking towards James and Wade to create a shot and score all the points.
Humbled from the loss to the Mavericks, Riley fell short of proclaiming the Heat would win multiple NBA titles, but he did proclaim that the Heat would be multiple contenders.
Riley's comments were a reminder that James once predicted that the Heat would win multiple championships in an overblown Big 3 introduction last year when James said, ...Not 5, Not 6, Not 7...
Riley himself has won multiple championships as coach, most recently with the Heat in 2006.
However, Riley denied speculation that he would replace Erik Spoelstra as the Heat's head coach.
No, I am not, Riley said. It doesn't mean that I don't have the fire, but no, we've got a great young coach here and I want to support him and hope that he can grow like I did. This is just his third year.
Riley did critique James' game saying his mid-range shot needs some work along with his post game.
Riley didn't speak about James improving his media image. James lashed out critics following the loss in his 'get a life' press conference in which he made comments that were interpreted by NBA fans as being elitist.
