LeBron James Injury Update: Will The Lakers Star Miss More Games With A Foot Injury?
LeBron James doesn't plan to miss any more games, even though he's not 100% healthy. The Los Angeles Lakers star expects to keep playing through a left foot injury that has already cost him a game in the early part of the 2022-23 season.
James sat out the Lakers' 139-116 loss against the Cleveland Cavaliers Sunday because of left foot pain. The four-time MVP told reporters that the injury will only get better with rest, but he can't afford to take any more time off. James will return to the court Wednesday in the Lakers' game against the Los Angeles Clippers.
The Lakers host the Sacramento Kings Friday and the Brooklyn Nets Sunday. After playing the Nets, James will have four full days off before Los Angeles faces the Detroit Pistons on Nov. 18.
James, Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook have all missed one game because of an injury. The Lakers are 0-3 in those games.
Injuries plagued James in three of his first four seasons with the Lakers, limiting him to fewer than 57 games in all but one year. James only missed four games in the 2019-2020 campaign before leading the Lakers to a championship in the league's bubble.
The Lakers' season could spiral out of control if James misses a significant amount of time. Los Angeles has lost eight of its first 10 games to start the season. The Lakers have the second-worst record in the Western Conference and trail the Minnesota Timberwolves by 2.5 games for the final spot in the play-in tournament.
Through nine games, James is averaging 24.3 points, 8.9 rebounds, 7.1 assists and 1.0 steals per contest. James is shooting 44.7% from the field and 21.0% from 3-point range. In his career with the Lakers, James is a 50.7% field-goal shooter and a 34.7% shooter from behind the arc.
James is scoring fewer than 25.0 points per game for the first time since his rookie season.
