KEY POINTS
- Leeds United set sights on Rodrigo De Paul
- Leeds United spending spree continues this transfer window
- Leeds United still far from done adding new players to mix
Leeds United FC is not slowing down on adding new players and the latest target is Rodrigo De Paul of Udinese Calcio. Talks are underway and The Peacocks are determined to improve further heading into the 2020-21 season.
According to Goal, it would take about $36 million for the deal to push through. Also, Leeds is not the only club interested in the 26-year-old midfielder. There are several Italian clubs also keeping tabs with the situation of the Argentine footballer.
De Paul signed a contract extension with Udinese in October which would keep him at Elland Road until 2024. He moved from Italy to Valencia in 2016, making 146 appearances across all competitions. He has 25 goals across his name thus far.
The club has been busy shopping for this transfer window, already taking in several players. That includes Rodrigo Moreno Machado from Valencia following a $35 million deal. The 29-year-old signed a four-year deal, ESPN reported. Rodrigo spent six seasons with Valencia, making 220 appearances and scoring 59 goals across all competitions.
"For me, this is a new step in my career and I want to help the team achieve the goals of the season," Rodrigo said in a statement. "Of course Marcelo Bielsa is one of the best coaches in football at this moment, he has done important things at different clubs and I'm excited to learn from him, improve my football with hard work and teamwork and I hope we can do important things this season."
Before Rodrigo, Sam Greenwood arrived from Arsenal and agreed to a three-year deal. There was also Robin Koch with Leeds beating Freiburg to him with a $17 million signing. Helder Costa, Illan Mester and Jack Harrison are other players who The Whites secured.
Aside from De Paul, there are other names on the list of LUFC. They have bid for Ben White three times already, all of which were thumbed down. A new pitch is expected soon, believed to be roughly around $32 million. Like De Paul, there are other clubs keeping tabs with White's situation. Other names on The Peacocks' list include Ryan Kent although their offer was branded as "way, way off."
