'The Leftovers' Season 2 Spoilers: Premiere Synopsis Released; What Will Happen In Episode 1, 'Axis Mundi'?
Kevin Garvey (Justin Theroux) is looking for a fresh start in "The Leftovers" Season 2, having departed New York for a new home in Texas, eager to leave the trauma of the past behind him. However, the synopsis for the Season 2 premiere episode released by HBO Wednesday reveals that trouble will be on the trail of the former sheriff.
According to the synopsis for the episode, titled "Axis Mundi," Garvey will be uprooting his "family" -- consisting of Nora Durst (Carrie Coon) and Jill Garvey (Margaret Qualley) -- and moving them from New York to Miracle, Texas. The small town of just a few thousand lost nobody to the so-called Sudden Departure, and now many people, including Kevin and a boatload of religious fanatics, are descending on Miracle for a second chance. Kevin's new neighbors are the mysterious Murphys -- John (Kevin Carroll), Erika (Regina King), and their teenage children Michael (Jovan Adepo) and Yvette, aka Evie (Jasmin Savoy Brown). They appear to be the perfect family, but are hiding more than a few secrets.
However, fans already knew that. The new revelation in the synopsis is that right before Kevin and his crew arrive in Miracle, John, a realist opposed to the religious fervor that has swept the town, gets an ominous warning from a man who claims to have spiritual powers that leads him to be a little suspicious of the town's new residents. They will have to work together, though, when an unexplained event changes all of their lives.
What could that event be? A behind-the-scenes video HBO released Tuesday that features actors Carroll and King in a preview of the debut of the Murphy family in Season 2 teases that the Murphys' daughter Evie mysteriously disappears in what Carroll calls "a WTF moment."
