Reese Witherspoon is working on a third “Legally Blonde” movie, and original franchise star Luke Wilson would love to be a part of it. MGM

It’s been 18 years since Reese Witherspoon’s Elle Woods attended Harvard Law in “Legally Blonde” and proved that she’s so much more than the shallow, dumb woman people incorrectly assumed she was. She won a big case, graduated with honors and found the love of her life, Emmett (Luke Wilson).

A couple years after the original flick came out, a sequel, “Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde,” was released, which saw Elle take on Washington, D.C. and get married. Now, fans are preparing to see a new Elle Woods adventure when “Legally Blonde 3” arrives Valentine’s Day 2020.

Witherspoon is returning as the titular character and the first film’s writers — Karen McCullah and Kirsten Smith — are coming back, as well. Although full details about the plot and cast are very slim, original actor Wilson told International Business Times that he would love to be in this new sequel movie.

“That would be really fun to kind of put the whole ‘Legally Blonde’ team back together. I really liked all those people,” he told IBT while promoting his new Colgate Super Bowl commercial. “…It was a very kind of special, lucky thing for me to have been a part of. So, yeah, hopefully there’s something in there for me.”

Wilson “had so much fun working with Reese” on the first two movies and was excited about joining the project in the first place because it allowed the "Goldfinch" star to work with someone he admired.

“Reese was just so funny,” he said. “I mean, to me, when I did the first movie, I just thought it would be kind of funny, and I’d really liked Reese in ‘Election’ and a couple of other kind-of dramas, and then she had this whole really, fully-fleshed out, really funny character.”

It’s been 16 years since he last played Emmett, but this role is never too far from his thoughts because people still come up to him to chat about the “Legally Blonde” movies.

“One interesting thing now is that people, primarily women, that would’ve seen that as younger girls, now have children of their own that have seen it,” the upcoming “Stargirl” actor said. “So, definitely in the past couple years, I’ve had moms introduce me and say, ‘You know, I loved ‘Legally Blonde’ growing up and my daughter just watched it and loved it.’ So, I’ve never really had that happen with a movie, where it’s been kind of [reintroduced]. I mean, maybe with something like ‘Old School,’ but, obviously, very different.”

Fans will just have to wait and see if “Legally Blonde 3” adds Wilson to its cast, but they can see him on their screens way before that movie’s 2020 release date when his Super Bowl commercial airs during the big game on Sunday.
