Nintendo announced that its popular Switch game “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild” is getting a sequel.

Nintendo’s hour-long E3 press conference was filled with tons of exciting news about upcoming games and future plans for the publisher, however, the biggest surprise was revealed at the end. Nintendo took fans by surprise when they unveiled a trailer that was mere seconds long. Its length didn’t matter though as the trailer confirmed that a sequel to “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild” was in the works and fans were overjoyed. The fact that one of Nintendo’s best-received games is getting a sequel is enough for fans to rejoice.

The trailer didn’t reveal much as it was only a few seconds long, but it did feature the characters of the game with looks of astonishment on their faces, along with mysterious green fire and a darkly lit lake. You can watch the trailer below.

“The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the WIld” was a huge hit when it first came out for the Wii U and Nintendo Switch back in 2017. Nintendo sold nearly 13 million copies of the game worldwide, making it the fourth best-selling Switch game, just behind “Mario Kart 8 Deluxe,” “Super Smash Bros. Ultimate,” and “Super Mario Odyssey.”

In the original game, players cook food they find in the forest and solve complex puzzles in order to unlock shrines. The land itself is full of beasts, machines, and monsters, which players have to beat in order to save the kingdom.

As for the Nintendo Switch, sales for the console were at an all-time high when they were released back in 2017 however sales have slumped lately. Not all hope is lost, however, as the sequel to “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild” could very well become Nintendo’s most anticipated Switch game and help the company drive console sales way back up.

During Nintendo’s E3 2019 press conference last Tuesday, they also showed off other Switch games that they hope will persuade new players to buy the console. Games like “Luigi’s Mansion 3,” a new “Smash Bros.” title, and “Pokemon Sword and Shield” were debuted during the event. Additionally, “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” will also be coming to Nintendo Switch.
