Rory’s (Dominic Purcell) storyline is going to be more interesting when a new version of his late partner, Snart (Wentworth Miller), shows up in Season 2 of “Legends of Tomorrow.”

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Phil Klemmer said that the introduction of a new version of Snart will determine whether Rory has changed for the better since joining the Legends.

“When [Snart] returns to our show, it’s most interesting for Rory, because it sets him up for a big backslide,” Klemmer teased. “Rory is so vociferous about, ‘I’m not a hero, I’m never going to change,’ but I think his arc with Amaya (Maisie Richardson-Sellers) this season is pretty poignant, especially in the last episode you guys saw. She’s gotten under his skin. It’s not a romantic thing, but there’s a real Beauty and the Beast vibe that those two characters have. So when Snart comes back, it’s really a question of, ‘Who is Rory? Has he really made progress? Or is he going to slip into his old ways?’”

While Klemmer didn’t specify what version of Snart fans are going to meet later in the season, the exec producer did say that it “isn’t the Snart we know and love.”

Miller told Entertainment Weekly at the Television Critics Association’s press tour earlier this month that he thinks that the new version of Snart is a “straight up villain.”

“[I think] he hasn’t gone on that first season ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ journey yet,” the 44-year-old actor said of the potential version of Snart that is about to debut on the show. “So when we meet him again — quote unquote alive in 2017 — I imagine that he’s going to be much like when we first met him the first season on ‘The Flash,’ which I’m looking forward to, because it means I get to arc to a completely different place.”

If that really ends up to be the case, then Miller thinks that Snart is going to be disappointed with Rory for working alongside a group of heroes. “I think some of that disappointment would steam from being triggered by watching his former buddy, a hard criminal, show a softer, more heroic side, because that might mean to Snart that he, too, is capable of showing a softer, more heroic side,” explained the “Prison Break” actor.

“Legends of Tomorrow” winter premiere (Season 2, episode 9) airs tonight at 9 p.m. EST on The CW.
