‘Legion’ Spoilers: Episode 5 Synopsis Teases New Threat For David
A new threat emerges in next week’s episode of “Legion.”
The synopsis for Season 1, episode 5 reveals that David (Dan Stevens) and his folks from Summerland face a new threat that may prevent him from knowing the truth about his powers. While the episode logline doesn’t reveal much about this new threat, the trailer for next week’s installment seems to suggest that the new threat may actually be David’s imaginary friend, Lenny (Aubrey Plaza).
After getting killed in the season premiere, Lenny starts reappearing in David’s mind, acting like his conscience. Since Syd (Rachel Keller) accidentally murdered her at Clockworks, Lenny has only been seen talking to David. But in the preview clip for the upcoming episode, Lenny appears to be conversing with the people at Summerland, blaming them for what happened to David.
Although Lenny is basically just a figment of David’s imagination, Lenny has been playing some sort of protector for David, so it won’t be surprising if she blocks Melanie (Jean Smart) and her team from further diving into David’s mind, which may eventually become the cause of their mission’s failure.
In an interview with TVLine last month, series creator Noah Hawley said that Plaza’s character evolves throughout the season. “It was a challenge for [Aubrey], I’m sure, to say, ‘Wait, I thought I was this person Lenny, but now who am I?’” Hawley said. “[Her role is] not clear, necessarily, over the first few hours, and then it becomes clear.”
Meanwhile, the trailer reveals that Syd seems to have decided to go wherever David wants to go. But Melanie appears to warn her to be careful, saying that there’s a chance that they’ve left the real world and are already in David’s mind. The video also reveals that David already knows where Division Three is keeping his sister Amy (Katie Aselton), so there could be rescue mission in the upcoming episode.
“Legion” Season 1, episode 5 airs on Wednesday, March 8 at 10 p.m. EST on FX. Watch the trailer below:
