‘Legion’ Star Jean Smart Teases Season 1 Finale
“Legion” star Jean Smart said that the twists and turns on the FX series won’t stop until the very end of Season 1.
In a recent interview with Digital Spy, Smart — who plays Melanie Bird on the psychological thriller — revealed that viewers are going to be surprised even in the very last moment of the show’s freshman run.
“You won’t see the end coming!” teased the 65-year-old actress. “There’s a very interesting twist in literally the last seconds of episode 8.”

In the same interview, Smart said that she accepted to be part of the show even without reading a script. This is because she has absolute trust in series creator Noah Hawley, who she had the pleasure to work with in Season 2 of “Fargo.”
“Noah pretty much told me nothing!” she laughed. “Seriously, he said, ‘I’m doing this new show and I want to talk to you about it’ and that was all I needed to hear. I signed on the dotted line. Complete act of faith!”
In a separate chat with Vulture, Smart said she had an incredible experience working with Hawley on “Fargo,” noting that she was so impressed with him as a writer. When asked what exactly impressed her about the Primetime Emmy winner, Smart said: “Actors like me, who come from the theater, are used to having really good words to say. When you start doing film and television, there seems to be, all of a sudden, a dramatic change in the kind of material you have. It’s not necessarily that it’s not as good, but it’s different. Theater is much more about the words, so to have someone like Noah giving you words to say was kind of like an oasis in the desert.”
In next week’s Season 1, episode 6 of “Legion,” Melanie and the rest of Team Summerland will find themselves stuck inside David’s (Dan Stevens) mind. Will they be able to escape David’s consciousness when the Devil with Yellow Eyes is the one in charge? Find out on Wednesday, March 15 at 10 p.m. EST on FX.
