Leonardo DiCaprio Tops Hollywood?s Highest Paid Actors
Forbes has listed the current highest paid actors in Hollywood.
At the top of the list for the year is Leonardo DiCaprio, who previously was in fifth place.
It is estimated that between May 2010 and May 2011, the Titanic actor earned $77 million. The reason may not just be the blockbusters that he continually rolls out, but his reputation as a quality actor. Last year's projects with director Martin Scorsese's "Shutter Island" as well as Christopher Nolan's "Inception" netted a total of $1.2 billion from both films, from which he received a sizeable profit.
DiCaprio unseated the past year's No. 1 spot from Johnny Depp, whose estimated $50 million earned between May 2010 and May 2011 earned him a current second-place setting. Forbes says that the actor is able to ask for more money with the success of blockbusters such as the "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise (which earned a combined total of $3.7 billion for the four movies).
In third place is Adam Sandler, who earned an estimated $40 million. Sandler's most recent film, "Grown-Ups", earned $271 million (his highest grossing film yet).
Fourth place goes to Will Smith with $36 million. The actor accepted a large deal up front for starring in "Men in Black III," which is currently in production.
In fifth place is Tom Hanks, with $35 million earned between May 2010 and May 2011. His recent film, "Larry Crowne" flopped at the box office with $51 million, but the actor continues with other projects such as the film adaptation of the best-selling book "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close" witch co-star Sandra Bullock.
