In a scary incident, a leopard was caught on camera entering a home and attacking a pet dog sleeping outside the front door. The incident took place in the western Indian state of Gujarat on Sept. 29.

CCTV footage of the incident posted on Twitter on Saturday showed the big cat sneaking up to the canine before attacking it. In the video, the dog can be seen sleeping at the door step of the home when the leopard stealthily walks towards it. The animal suddenly pounces on the canine and grabs it by the neck as the dog howls in fright. However, the dog managed to free itself from the leopard’s jaws and runs away barking.

Local reports said that the big cat managed to escape into the wild by the time the incident came to light. The following morning, the forest officials were informed. The officials searched the neighborhood but couldn’t find the animal. The condition of the pet dog was not known.

The incident comes less than a month after a leopard entered a home and took away a pet dog in the southern Indian state of Karnataka. Video of the incident showed the animal entering the property by leaping over a compound wall. The big cat then roams inside the property for a while before grabbing the dog by its neck and running away.

Recalling the incident, the dog’s owner had said, “We have two dachshunds that were outside the house. When I woke up in the morning, I found one of the dogs missing. After searching in the nearby areas, I checked the CCTV footage and saw a leopard sitting on the compound wall and later returning with one of the dogs that was inside the compound.”
