  • Leslie Jordan died after a car accident in Los Angeles in October 2022 at the age of 67
  • The comedian died of a sudden cardiac dysfunction, an autopsy report reveals
  • The coroner ruled that the death was natural

"Will & Grace" actor Leslie Jordan's cause of death was released Thursday, nearly three months after he died at age 67 following a car crash in Los Angeles last year.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner's office determined that while driving his car, Jordan suffered a "sudden cardiac dysfunction" rooted in "arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease," USA Today reported. The coroner ruled that the death was natural.

The medical examiner's office found that Jordan had "moderate to severe atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease," the autopsy report stated.

Authorities said that prior to the crash, Jordan had started seeing a doctor for heart-related issues and taking medication, the New York Post reported.

No drugs or alcohol were detected in his system at the time of the crash.

Sudden cardiac dysfunction occurs when there is a malfunction in the heart's electrical system, causing it to beat dangerously fast, according to Us Weekly. Blood flow to the brain reduces drastically, causing those suffering from sudden cardiac dysfunction to lose consciousness.

Arteriosclerosis is a condition that involves blood vessels becoming thick and stiff, restricting blood flow. Atherosclerosis is a type of arteriosclerosis that involves the buildup of fats, cholesterol and other substances in and on artery walls, according to the Mayo Clinic.

Jordan crashed the BMW he was driving into the side of a building in Hollywood on Oct. 24, 2022. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

At the time, an unnamed law enforcement source told the Los Angeles Times that the condition of the vehicle suggested the comedian lost control of the car.

Jordan's celebrity pals and collaborators were devastated over his death and paid tribute to him on social media.

Dolly Parton, who recorded a duet with Jordan for his 2021 album "Company's Comin'," expressed shock over his passing.

"Well I am as hurt and shocked as if I have lost a family member. Leslie and I had a special bond, I think the world felt they had a special bond with him," she wrote on Instagram. "I know people always say, 'Oh, they will be missed,' but in this case that could not be more true. He will be missed by everyone who knew him personally and by everyone who was entertained by him. Rest in peace, lil' brother."

"Wonder Woman" star Lynda Carter remembered Jordan for the smiles he brought to the people's faces.

"Leslie Jordan put a smile on the faces of so many, especially with his pandemic videos. What a feat to keep us all laughing and connected in such difficult times... It feels so cruel that this could happen to such a beautiful soul," Carter tweeted.

Meanwhile, Derek Hough expressed his regrets for missing the chance to have the actor on "Dancing with the Stars" after learning of a fan petition to have Jordan appear on the dancing competition show.

"His personality was so big, so grand and joyful... It actually breaks my heart right now," Hough told "Extra" of Jordan following his death. "I wish I would have known that, because we would have [had him on the show]."

He added, "Whenever I hear people like that who are vying to be on the show, I like to reach out and find ways that we can incorporate them somehow... It breaks my heart that I wasn't able to do that."
