‘Lethal Weapon’ Season 2 Spoilers: Rex Linn Cast As Riggs’ Dad
Fans are going to meet Riggs’ (Clayne Crawford) dad in Season 2 of “Lethal Weapon.”
According to TVLine, the Fox series has cast “CSI: Miami” alum Rex Linn to play the role of Riggs’ father. Linn will appear in multiple Season 2 episodes in Texas-set flashback scenes alongside a young actor who will be playing a teenage version of Riggs. The news outlet reported that the decision to explore the relationship between Riggs and his off-kilter dad is one of the show’s attempts to inform about Riggs’ issues in the present day.
“Lethal Weapon” showrunner Matt Miller revealed to TVLine that John Lithgow convinced him to recruit Linn for the role. “[John] personally called me and said, ‘If you don’t hire Rex Linn, you’re crazy!” shared Miller, who worked with Lithgow in Season 1 of the NBC mockumentary “Trial & Error.” Lithgow and Linn, on the other hand, both starred in the 1993 thriller “Cliffhanger.”

Linn, who recently appeared on AMC’s “Better Call Saul” and on CMT’s “Nashville,” is the latest addition to the growing list of newcomers to Season 2 of “Lethal Weapon.” The 60-year-old actor joins previously announced series newcomers Andrew Creer and Michael Hurd.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Creer will play the recurring role of Zach Bowman, an attractive and enthusiastic detective on LAPD’s robbery-homicide division, who partners with detective Sonya Bailey (Michelle Mitchenor). Zach has climbed the ranks quickly through a few lucky heroic moments on the job. He also becomes the poster child of LAPD as his accomplishments have helped the department redeem its image after a series of disasters Riggs (Clayne Crawford) and Murtaugh (Damon Wayans) have caused.
Hurd, meanwhile, will play LAPD chief Gina Santos. Deadline reported that Santos is Captain Brooks Avery’s (Kevin Rahm) new boss, who has an interesting past with Murtaugh. Riggs’ partner, who is happily married to Trish (Keesha Murtaugh), is going to be paralyzed by Santos’ arrival, and the sexual tension between Murtaugh and Santos — which may be just in his head — will affect his performance at his job.
“Lethal Weapon” Season 2 premieres on Tuesday, Sept. 26 at 8 p.m. EST on Fox.
