South Korean electronics giant LG recently filed a lawsuit against the Chinese company TCL, on the grounds of the latter stealing LTE technologies.

In a press release by LG, it was stated that the company filed the lawsuit against TCL in the German district courts of Mannheim and Düsseldorf. The case filed stated that TCL infringed on the patents of LG that involved four different technologies from LG.

One is a patent for a technology used to packet data loss on 4G networks, the other is for a technology that reduces network interference and the last one is a technology that deals with a timer that helps synchronize the uplink of data transfer in 4G networks.

“LG has long invested heavily in LTE innovation and when it becomes necessary, we take action to protect these important assets,” said Jeon Saeng-gyu, executive vice president of LG’s Intellectual Property Center, from the same press release.

“As a leader in LTE technology, we have a responsibility to ensure that competition in the industry takes place fairly and legally. These lawsuits are aimed at protecting our investments and challenging the unlawful use of our vital assets and to safeguard the competitiveness of the industry for future innovation.”

The filing of the case to court came after LG made attempts to settle and fix the situation outside of court. However, these efforts brought no results and, in the end, the company still had to take legal action against TCL.

TCL is a Chinese company that deals with electronics, including mobile phones. They are also known to be the makers of Alcatel-branded devices.

LG takes pride in its technological researches that the company had already gone great lengths in the past in protecting its technology from any infringement by other companies. In 2018, the company sued Wiko on the grounds of infringing its same three 4G patents. Back in 2017, it was BLU which had a case with LG, this time infringing a total of five different patents.

BLU ended up licensing the said patents from LG.

TCL is yet to issue a statement regarding the case filed against them.
