Lil Baby Concert Shooting: Police Give Update Regarding Victim's Condition
One person remains hospitalized after being shot during the Lil Baby concert that took place in Birmingham, Alabama on Saturday.
As Advance Local reports, Sgt. Rod Mauldin revealed in a statement released Sunday that despite the victim’s life-threatening injuries, he or she is currently in stable condition in UAB Hospital. Authorities have not publicly identified the victim.
The shooting occurred while Lil Baby was in the midst of performing “My Dawg” at the Bill Harris Arena. According to Mauldin’s statement, it all began backstage around 10:20 p.m after a physical altercation broke out between promoters and the rapper’s team members.
A video of the incident shows two men appear on stage before exiting on the other end, Lil Baby can be seen abruptly following behind them. A few moments of silence ensue as fans try to figure out what’s going on.
“Oh they fighting,” the person filming the video yells. “They fighting!”
Moments later a gunshot can be heard causing fans to scream and run for the exit. The concert was shut down following the incident despite the rapper only being on stage for around 10 minutes. No arrests have been made yet.
As USA Today reports, the “Woah” artist, born Dominique Jones, was arrested in Atlanta in February 2019 for reckless driving.
According to a statement by Georgia State Patrol, an officer “observed an orange Chevrolet Corvette fail to signal when changing lanes. It increased its speed and began passing vehicles in a reckless manner in a high pedestrian area. [Jones] began weaving between cars at a high rate of speed. As the trooper began to catch up, the Corvette got stuck in heavy traffic. … As the trooper got behind the vehicle, he attempted to accelerate and change lanes."
Lil Baby eventually stopped his vehicle and cooperatively laid on the ground while being placed in handcuffs.
However, as CBS 42 reports, police have not made any arrests in relation to the recent shooting.
