Lil Wayne, Adele, Chris Brown are Among VMA Performers [FULL NOMINEE'S LIST]

Lil Wayne will be performing at the MTV Video Music Awards, and Adele will be making her first appearance at the event, the network announced.

The MTV Video Music Awards will be held at 9 p.m. ET on Aug. 28. where the year's best artists will go head-to-head in the 14 VMA categories.

Lil Wayne's new album Tha Carter IV will come out on the day.

"Being a nominee and performer on the VMAs once again is an honor because everyone doesn't get that opportunity," Lil Wayne said in a statement. "Looking forward to performing on the show, and having Tha Carter IV drop the same week!"

Chris Brown, who hasn't been on the VMA stage since 2007, will also be performing.

"I am excited about my nominations and to be back on the VMA stage," Brown said in a statement. "I have a special performance planned for my wonderful fans."

Other acts will be known in coming days.

When it comes to nominations, women are leading this year's.

Katy Perry is ahead of the pack with nine VMA nominations to include video of the year, and best female video, for her hit song Firework. She is also nominated in the best pop video category for the party song Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.), and she is in the running also for the best special effects for her current top selling digital song in the U.S. called E.T. featuring Kanye West.

Adele, who has been receiving much success from the year's biggest album called 21, has scored seevn nominations for the hit song Rolling In the Deep.

But the boys won't be outdone, as Kanye West topped all the males, with his seven nominations, not only for the collaboration with Katy Perry, but for his videos for the songs All of The Lights and Power.

Bruno Mars is up for four Moonman awards. Beyoncé, Eminem, Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj, and Thirty Seconds To Mars, each have three VMA nominations. Beastie Boys, Chris Brown, Pitbull, Lil Wayne, as well as first time VMA nominees, Tyler, The Creator, Foster the People and Manchester Orchestra all have two nominations this year.
