Lil Wayne vs. Birdman Beef: Did Weezy Announce He’s Signing With Jay Z And Roc-A-Fella Records?
Lil Wayne is causing a stir once again, this time after a recent performance at the Camp Flog Gnaw music festival in Los Angeles. While performing the song “I’m Me,” the rapper made one small change to the lyrics.
Lil Wayne rapped that he is a “Roc-A-Fella millionaire” instead of saying “Cash Money millionaire.” Wayne also threw up the Roc-A-Fella dynasty sign with his hands, prompting some to believe that he has signed some sort of deal with Jay Z.
It’s not Wayne’s first time hinting at a deal with Jay Z. Last year, while performing in Oakland, the rapper teased the crowd by saying he had just “signed a deal” with his “idol Jay Z.” The deal wasn’t with Roc-A-Fella or Roc Nation, instead, Wayne signed a deal as an artist owner with music streaming service Tidal.
While a Roc-A-Fella shout-out may seem odd, Lil Wayne does have a relationship with Jay Z. Tidal has live-streamed Wayne’s concerts and also put out his album, “Free Weezy Album,” which eventually got Wayne in trouble. According to manager Cortez Bryant, he and Lil Wayne were hit with a cease-and-desist letter after releasing the album.
Representatives for Lil Wayne and Jay Z have yet to comment on the shout-out but producer Infamous, who is longtime collaborator of Lil Wayne, took to Twitter to say the change in lyrics wasn’t as random as it seemed.
If Lil Wayne does have something in the works, many fans hope it’s the indefinitely delayed “Tha Carter V.” The constant delay of his album led to Lil Wayne filing a $51 million lawsuit against Birdman and Cash Money Records.
