Linkin Park Ends 5-Year Hiatus, Releases Teaser Trailer Dedicated To Chester Bennington [Watch]
Linkin Park has ended its hiatus with a teaser video of an unreleased single, which features the voice of the late Chester Bennington. The former frontman of the rock band died in 2017.
In the days leading up to the announcement of the new song, the band uploaded a series of cryptic messages on its official Twitter page. Linkin Park first posted a mysterious link on its Twitter page on Jan. 28 that would take users to the band's official website. The following day, it posted another tweet featuring a room with an old computer desktop with the caption: "POV, you illegally downloading numb from your bedroom circa 2003." It also had a link to the band's website.
In the following days, the band launched an interactive puzzle on its homepage featuring objects, including CDs, Funko Pop! Figures and a platinum disc of Linkin Park's 2003 album "Meteora."
There was no specific announcement about the upcoming track until the band dropped the teaser video of "Lost" on Monday to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their 2003 album "Meteora."
The 18-second teaser video shows a man spray painting the camera until it turned black. Afterward, the words "New Linkin Park Music" appear on the screen.
The new single, which will release Friday, includes the voice of Bennington, who ended his life at the age of 41. The Linkin Park singer was found dead in his home in Palos Verdes Estates, California, in July 2017. The body of the "In the End" singer was found by his housekeeper while his family was out of town, according to TMZ.
Bennington struggled with alcohol and drug use for years. He reportedly considered suicide after he was abused by an older man when he was young. Bennington was very close to singer and songwriter Chris Cornell who ended his life by hanging in May 2017.
The Linkin Park frontman had six children from two marriages, the outlet reported.
The band had been on hiatus since October 2017 after its tribute concert, "Linkin Park and Friends: Celebrate Life in Honor of Chester Bennington."
