LIV Golf Rumors: Tournaments Will Be Broadcast On TV Soon
The LIV Golf Invitational Series could soon be on television, according to a recent report. The Saudi-backed golf league has been unable to secure a TV deal, but it could soon pay to have its tournaments broadcast on cable.
LIV Golf is getting close to buying air time on Fox Sports 1, sources have told Golfweek. The controversial league has tried and failed to secure a TV deal with NBC, CBS, Disney, Apple and Amazon, according to Golfweek.
There have been five LIV Golf tournaments, so far, in the league's debut season. Fans have only been able to watch the events on YouTube. Three LIV Golf tournaments are set for October to conclude the 2022 schedule.
LIV Golf will expand to 14 tournaments in 2023. It's unknown if the reported deal with Fox would start next year or during the 2022 season.
While LIV Golf will reportedly shell out money to get on TV, some sports leagues in the country are paid billions of dollars per year for their broadcast rights.
The PGA Tour will reportedly make billions over nine years in TV agreements with NBC, CBS and ESPN. Warner Bros. Discovery is reportedly paying the PGA Tour $2 billion over 12 years to air events around the world.
The most recent LIV Golf Invitational took place in Chicago from Sept. 16-18. Nine days after the third and final round was live streamed on YouTube it has 602,000 views.
The final round of LIV Golf's first tournament, which took place in London on June 11, has 830,00 views on YouTube.
The LIV Golf roster includes some of the sport's biggest names. Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson and Sergio Garcia have been with the tour since it started. Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka joined LIV Golf in the summer.
Two months after winning the 2022 British Open, Cameron Smith picked up his first LIV Golf victory.
