New details about the Eli Roth-directed movie adaptation of the hit RPG first-person shooter title “Borderlands” emerged recently.
Hollywood Reporter recently spoke with Adam Goodman of MidAtlantic Films, who shared that “Borderlands” is one of several productions being filmed in Hungary. According to Goodman, "We're opened up space for a Lionsgate film, Borderlands [starring Cate Blanchett and Kevin Hart], we're doing season three of Jack Ryan for Paramount TV, and we're doing a Marvel project, which, for the usual security reasons, I can't talk about.”
The movie adaptation of the post-apocalyptic video game series developed by Gearbox was announced in 2015. The project was delayed, but new details about it surfaced in early 2020 following the announcement of Eli Roth’s involvement. “Borderlands” will reportedly star Cate Blanchett, who will assume the role of the siren Lilith, one of the first heroes playable in the RPG title.
Kevin Hart is also rumored to play the role of the soldier Roland. Craig Mazin, who is known for creating the miniseries “Chernobyl,” and won an Emmy for it, penned the "Borderlands" script. The movie is being produced by Erik Feig, Avi Arad and Ari Arad.
In one of his previous interviews, Roth said, "I’m so lucky to have the amazing Cate Blanchett starring in Borderlands. We had the most incredible collaboration together on The House with a Clock in Its Walls, and I believe there’s nothing she can’t do. From drama to comedy and now action, Cate makes every scene sing.”
There is a growing trend of popular games being adapted to movies and TV shows. Netflix bet on “The Witcher” and “Castlevania.” Sony Pictures is working on the movie adaptation of the hit game “Uncharted.” A new TV series is currently in the works based on Bethesda’s “ Fallout 4.”
And rumors have it that Netflix is planning to create a TV show based on the popular game series “The Elder Scrolls.”
