Ahead of Liverpool FC’s Premier League clash with Manchester City, Jurgen Klopp cautiously said the Etihad side "will want to strike back" after their Champions League loss.

Manchester City lost 2-0 to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in an away Champions League fixture Tuesday while Liverpool had a memorable outing to Porto as they thrashed the hosts 5-1.

Liverpool are set to host reigning champions Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday.

"City will want to strike back for sure. But we are at home finally after a few games [playing away] without our crowd, so let's give it a go," Klopp was quoted by BBC Sport, as saying, after his side’s incredible win over Porto.

While Liverpool outclassed Porto in their Champions League meeting, Klopp pointed out that there are still areas that need improvement in order to produce a similar show against Pep Guardiola’s Man City.

"First and foremost, the most important thing is the result. It is a massive one away at Porto. Winning, and the way we won, make it better. It was good in lots of moments. We could see Porto watched our last game at Brentford. They started direct. I wanted to get it sorted on the pitch and that's what we did step-by-step,” added Klopp in the same interview.

Liverpool’s front three -- Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino scored for the Reds in Porto. Firmino netted a brace after coming off the bench in the second half. Meanwhile, Diogo Jota, who started ahead of the Brazilian striker, failed to convert his chances.

In the Porto match, James Milner equaled former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard in the list of most assists produced in the Champions League for the Reds. Milner, who set up Mane’s goal Tuesday, now has 12 assists for Liverpool in the top-tier European competition, same as Gerrard.

"We scored maybe not the most amazing goals but important ones in the first half. In the second half, we controlled the game. It [momentum] always helps, but against City, it does not help alone - we need more things than only momentum. We need to play better than we did tonight, that is clear anyway. It will be a completely different game," Klopp explained further.
