  • Liverpool and Man Utd are chasing Valencia's winger Ferran Torres
  • Valencia have decided to reduce Torres' transfer fee of $108m
  • Man Utd are also after Dortmund's Jadon Sancho

Liverpool FC are reportedly chasing to get signatures of Manchester United’s target winger Ferran Torres ahead of the summer transfer window.

Torres, who is currently contracted with La Liga’s Valencia, is understood to be having a similar style of play as that of a young Cristiano Ronaldo. The Spaniard’s running style and walk are alike Ronaldo’s, while his flicks and tricks on the ball remind everyone of Liverpool star Roberto Firmino. Even though the forward is pretty much one-footed, his close control and speed of turn mean he won’t be restricted to the right flank that is his primary position in the squad.

Despite being just 20, he made as many as 88 appearances for Valencia in the last three seasons. The young striker’s performance this season, where he scored six goals and provided seven assists in 35 matches, has attracted interest from other big European clubs such as Man Utd and Liverpool.

Valencia ranks the Under-21 Spain international quite high and hence they have labeled Torres with a transfer fee of $108 million. His contract expires in June 2021 and an extension is yet to be agreed to.

However, The Athletic has reported that Valencia have decided to lower Torres’ asking price because they do not want to lose him at a much cheaper rate next summer or even as a free agent. Considering the current financial crisis at almost every soccer club due to the coronavirus pandemic, Valencia’s decision could be good news for the two Premier League clubs that are interested in Torres.

Torres, however, is not Man Utd and Liverpool’s top target. While the Red Devils have been desperate to sign Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho, whose transfer fee could be over $124m, Liverpool are eyeing RB Leipzig star Timo Werner and Bayer Leverkusen ace Kai Havertz.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are 25 points clear on the top in the Premier League table and when the league resumes next month, they’ll need just two wins to seal their first league title in 30 long years. Meanwhile, Man Utd are three points away from clinching the fourth place in the Premier League, which is also the last slot for automatic qualification for the Champions League next season.
