  • Young goalkeeper Javier Cendon impressed Jurgen Klopp's coaching staff at Liverpool's training camp in Austria
  • The Reds are now considering offering Cendon a contract "later this week"
  • Klopp was also impressed by Billy Koumetio during their training sessions at Austria

After Jurgen Klopp’s coaching staff noticed his potential at a training camp in Austria with Liverpool’s first team, teenage goalkeeper Javier Cendon could be just days away from signing a professional contract with the Premier League champions.

Klopp and his coaching team recently arranged a training camp in Austria. The Reds boss had invited several youngsters to join his stacked first-team squad during the camp to further assess their abilities, and at this point, Liverpool’s coaching staff has already made a few notable picks.

Former Villareal goalkeeper Cendon was among the standouts during Liverpool’s pre-season camp. Sources told Goal that the 19-year-old Spaniard impressed the coaching staff, including goalkeeping coach John Achterberg, with his skills.

The training sessions have done Cendon good as Liverpool is now considering whether to offer him a contract upon its return to Merseyside “later this week,” the report said.

Despite proving his potential, Cendon is currently viewed as a possible option for Liverpool under-23’s squad, under the supervision of Barry Lewtas, rather than jumping straight into the first-team, the report noted. He will likely be given a chance to continue training at Melwood in the next few days while Liverpool finalizes its decision about handing him a contract.

The reigning Premier League champion is currently well-stocked in terms of senior goalkeepers. In fact, Klopp has also included Billy Koumetio, another defender in the Austria training camp.

Much like Cendon, Koumeito impressed Klopp during the training sessions and has already signed his first professional contract with the Reds.

Speaking via his club’s official website, Klopp revealed that despite Koumetio’s impressive physical attributes, the team is still cautious about the youngster’s condition, considering he has been dealing with injuries for “quite a while.”

The renowned manager also plans to put Koumetio in the team’s U23s but is convinced that now is the perfect time for Liverpool to help the young defender prepare for a possible first-team debut in the future.

“Billy was unfortunately injured for quite a while, so he’s now coming back. The perfect situation would be that he maybe really first be with the U23s and stuff like this,” Klopp said. “But a training camp is a nice opportunity for him, it’s good for us to see him. We just have to make sure that we really deal with his age group and physical demands well.”
