Liverpool Striker Joins Sheffield United, Return To Anfield Possible
KEY POINTS
- Rhian Brewster is looking to shine with the Blades
- The 20-year-old aims to score goals for Sheffield United
- Liverpool could still take back Brewster in the future
Rhian Brewster is a promising player and moving out of Anfield could do him good. The 20-year-old striker will be moving to Sheffield United after spending half of last season on loan to Swansea City.
Liverpool confirmed Brewster's move to Sheffield United on its official website. Sky Sports reported that the deal is worth roughly $30 million, with the Reds retaining a 15% sell-on clause as well as a buy-back clause valid for the next three years.
Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder has been looking for a new forward following the exit of Callum Robinson, who is now with West Brom. Sheffield has yet to score this season, and Wilder is hoping to get something out of Brewster.
"There has been a lot of interest in him over the summer, a lot of speculation about who we were going for, but he has been our number one target and I am delighted to have secured his services," Wilder said in a statement via ESPN.
The move of Brewster makes sense with Liverpool taking in Wolves forward Diogo Jota. Already struggling to rise among the ranks, the entry of Jota is expected to make life harder for the 20-year-old, who has gone down the pecking order of the Reds.
"It feels good to be here and I just can't wait to get started to be honest. There were a few teams who came in but right now Sheffield United is the best option for me," Brewster said via the club’s official site.
"Looking at the club, it is on the rise, finishing ninth last year and hopefully it can be better this season," he continued. "Maybe I can add some goals, I'll work hard and try and help the team to a higher place this year."
Brewster scored 11 goals in 22 matches which, for him, was an achievement. Regardless, he holds no qualms and would rather focus on the coming season with the Blades.
"I am ready to come in and show everyone what I've got," Brewster said. "It is a team that creates a lot of chances, the three at the back, overlapping, they get crosses into the box and that's my game - being in the box, finding space and one and two touch finishes. That's what I am going to try and do, and try and score goals for Sheffield United."
