KEY POINTS

  • Trent Alexander-Arnold will be out of action until December
  • Liverpool are already without a few key players this season due to injuries
  • Trent suffered a calf injury in Liverpool's 1-1 draw with Manchester City

Liverpool's right-back Trent Alexender-Arnold reportedly has been ruled out until December after suffering a calf injury in his side's 1-1 draw with Manchester City in the Premier League.

Trent, who has been a key player for the defending champions over the last two years, is likely to miss Reds' upcoming games with Leicester, Atalanta, and Brighton, and could also be doubtful for the fixtures with Ajax, Wolves, and Midtjylland at the beginning of December, as reported by Goal.

At the end of the 1-1 draw at Etihad Sunday, both Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp were vocal against Premier League's decision to return to the three substitutes per game, after the switch to five-sub rule post the coronavirus lockdown.

While Man City boss termed the decision a "disaster," Klopp slammed the leadership of Premier League, saying Trent would not be the last player to suffer from the heavy workload this season.

Liverpool veteran James Milner came off the bench, as expected after Trent limped off the field in the second half at the Etihad Stadium. In the upcoming matches, after the underway international break, one can expect Liverpool's academy player Neco Williams to get more first-team opportunities.

The 19-year-old right-back, who made 11 competitive appearances for the senior side last season, has made four games for the first team in 2020-21, most recently coming off the bench as a late substitute to make his Champions League debut in the 5-0 win over Atalanta. Meanwhile, he had also started the Community Shield fixture against Arsenal and he played 90 minutes in Liverpool's League Cup matches against Lincoln and Arsenal.

Klopp’s side has been hit with an injury more often than before in the ongoing season. The Reds are already without Virgil van Dijk, Thiago Alcantara, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Fabinho. Van Dijk is expected to miss the remainder of the 2020-21 campaign as he is recovering from an ACL injury. The likes of Fabinho and Joel Matip were being considered as ideal covers for van Dijk, but unfortunately for Klopp, both the players ended up getting injured.

Matip returned to action Sunday, and the defensive midfielder Fabinho is expected to return to action post the international break. However, there is no update about Alcantara and Chamberlain’s return as yet.
