Liverpool Transfer News: Sneijder, Valdes, Forren And Ilicic Involved In Latest Speculation
Reports are continuing to link Liverpool with a move for Wesley Sneijder as the Internazionale star stalls over a move to Galatasaray.
Sneijder, 28, is available on a cut-price deal this month having been frozen out of the Inter first team, reportedly for failing to agree to a reduction in his wages. Turkish giants Galatasaray have agreed a deal for the attacking midfielder, but Sneijder is believed to be holding out in the hope of securing a transfer to the Premier League.
The Daily Mirror and Metro cite Liverpool as a potential destination, despite managing director Ian Ayre claiming that they had no interest in signing the former Ajax and Real Madrid man.
It has also been reported that Sneijder had a tight deadline to decide over his move to Turkey, but he has dismissed such claims.
"All players on the move in this transfer window must decide what to do and where to go by the end of January. I'll do the same," Sneijder told Italian publication Gazzetta dello Sport.
"I am in no hurry and I don't want to rush this decision."
"After what has happened in the last few months, in the context of having made football history with my team-mates, well, I don't want to feel pressured," he added.
"After what I did, I don't want to feel this way—practically obliged to make such an important step in my life in a short space of time. It's not a money matter."
Meanwhile, it would appear that Liverpool will miss out on the signing of Norwegian defender Vegard Forren. It had been reported earlier in the week that the Reds were set to welcome the 24-year-old on trial from Molde ahead of a potential move.
However, it has now been confirmed by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the Molde boss and former Manchester United striker, that Southampton have submitted a formal offer with a deal close to being reached.
“There have been many inquiries from various English clubs, but Southampton submitted an offer, it was very interesting for us and Vegard," he said, according to the Daily Mirror.
"We are more or less agreed with the club, but nothing is a 100 per cent."
Liverpool may also have to abandon any plans they may have had to sign Palermo attacking midfielder Josip Ilicic. Liverpool are one of the clubs to be linked with the Slovenia international following his impressive performances in Serie A.
According to the 24-year-old’s representative, the player will be staying put.
"I have said it many times and I say it again: 'Ilicic will not leave Palermo,'” Amir Ruznic said, according to Sky Sports.
"[Palermo owner] Maurizio Zamparini will not sell him at any price. He is too important.
"In the summer we will sit down and look at the offers.
"Ilicic wants to stay in Italy. Serie A is his first choice."
Zamparini recently claimed that even a €30 million (£25m) offer would not persuade him to sell Ilicic.
Liverpool have also been linked with an unlikely switch for Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes of late. The Spain international has yet to extend a contract at the Camp Nou that has just 18 months left to run, leading to speculation that he could exit the club this summer.
With doubts existing over the future of Pepe Reina, Liverpool have been cited as a potential destination. But Reina, 31, took to Twitter to attempt to cool talk over his future.
“Hi all, I want to clarify that I have not yet spoken about my future—in time I will,” he wrote. “Everything you are talking about is speculation.”
