Lizzo Puts Own Twist On BTS' 'Butter' On BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge [Video]
Lizzo put her own twist on BTS' monstrous hit "Butter" during her BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge guesting Thursday.
Prior to her performance, the 33-year-old singer and rapper told the segment's host, "I'm really a sucker for people who make positive music."
"I have dedicated my artistry to making positive music, and BTS does just that," she added. "The world has fallen in love with them because they are so sweet and pure and they're just good-hearted. And I wanted to bring some more positivity into the world via their song. It's a great song too. It's so funky."
She then sang the hit summer track in her own style, giving it a smooth vibe. She jammed with the members of her all-female backing band who wore white outfits, a perfect contrast to her bright orange ensemble, which she jazzed up with a black tube top that had "VMIN" printed on it in bold white.
"VMIN" is a nickname she coined for V and Jimin, in response to a member of the "ARMY," the group's fans club, who coaxed her to write about the two BTS members' friendship.
It can be recalled that on Sept. 16, the "Truth Hurts" singer tweeted, "In the studio…what should I write about?" Apparently, she was hinting at her preparations for a follow-up to her 2019 album "Cuz I Love You."
A fan who goes by the Twitter handle @VminxYoonmin replied to her tweet, writing, "Perhaps a true friendship? Like what V and Jimin have for example!"
On the same day, Lizzo posted a freestyle rap in response to the fan's request. She rapped, "I love you, you love me, just like Jimin loves some V / Gooey like that butter B / Gooey like that butter B / Say I like you, you like me / BFFs like VMIN, G."
It hasn't been long since "Butter" was performed on BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge. BTS itself appeared on the segment on Sept. 6 to perform the smash hit, with its members wearing colorful schoolboy outfits.
Earlier this month, Billboard hailed "Butter" as the Song of the Summer for 2021. The announcement came after the track occupied the No. 1 spot on the Hot 100 chart for 10 weeks.
