'The Lord Of The Rings' Monster Was Based On Harvey Weinstein, Elijah Wood Claims
Elijah Wood, who played Frodo in "The Lord of the Rings" movies, claims the monster Orc was modeled after disgraced producer Harvey Weinstein.
Orc is a humanoid monster, who looks like a green goblin.
"It's funny — this was recently spoken about because Dom [Monaghan] and Bill [Boyd] have a podcast, 'The Friendship Onion.' They were talking to Sean Astin [who played Samwise] about his first memory of getting to New Zealand," Woods told host Dax Shepard while appearing on his podcast, "Armchair Expert."
"He had seen these orc masks. And one of the orc masks — and I remember this vividly — was designed to look like Harvey Weinstein as a sort of a f–k you," Wood explained.
The actor noted that it is OK to talk about it now as "the guy [Weinstein] is f–-ing incarcerated. F–k him."
"The Lord of the Rings" trilogy was based on J. R. R. Tolkien's books, which were originally published in 1954. The trilogy was released between 2001 and 2003. The success of the movie series led to a prequel trilogy, "The Hobbit" (2012-14).
Weinstein was forced to leave his production company in 2017 after The New York Times published a report detailing allegations of sexual misconduct against him.
Many actresses, including Gwyneth Paltrow, Angelina Jolie and Jessica Hynes, spoke about their bad experience with the disgraced producer at the time. After three years of legal battle, Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years in jail for rape and sexual battery in 2020.
Woods will be next seen in the movie "L.A. Rush," which is a crime drama based on a popular video game with the same name.
The movie revolves around a father who enters a gaming world to save his daughter from a game developer who tries to control her. The project is helmed by director duo Jiahuang Peng and Peng Chen.
Wood is currently filming a superhero horror comedy movie, "The Toxic Avenger," which is helmed by director Macon Blair. The movie also stars Jacob Tremblay and the "Game of Thrones" star Peter Dinklage.
