Lori Vallow Update: Chad Daybell's Backyard Well Seemingly Investigated After Police Obtain Second Search Warrant
[UPDATE 4:00 PM] Daybell was taken into custody for questioning on Tuesday afternoon after human remains were found on the property, as reported by NY Daily News.
Original Story: On Tuesday morning, police raided Chad Daybell's Idaho home for the second time as they continued their investigation into the whereabouts of Lori Vallow's missing children, Joshua 'JJ' Vallow and Tylee Ryan. Even though they were last seen in September, they were not reported missing until November. Now, after seven months, law enforcement have once again traveled to the home on the 200 block of 1900 East in Salem with a search warrant.
According to East Idaho News, Fremont County Sheriff deputies, Rexburg Police officers and the FBI arrived at the residence at around 7 a.m. FBI spokeswoman Sandra Barker has since confirmed that the agency’s Evidence Response Team is helping to carry out the execution of a search warrant.
Following their arrival, "numerous roads around the home" were closed off and drivers in the area were rerouted. The media was also asked to stay in a "staging area" while the search was conducted. While the reasoning behind the second search of the property remains a mystery at this time due to the fact that the warrant from the Rexburg Police Department is sealed, it has been reported by the Daily Mail that officials could be seen from aerial footage "digging up soil around what appears to be a well" that is located in the backyard.
During the first visit, law enforcement seized 43 items on Jan. 3 after using metal detectors, probes, and rakes to go over specific areas of the yard. A shed was also searched at that time.
As reported by Daily Mail, Lori married Chad, who is known to be "a prolific Doomsday author, alleged cult leader and former grave digger," less than two months after the children disappeared. Prior to Tuesday's search, many voiced their suspicions about both parties as they have remained tight-lipped about any information that could lead to Tylee and JJ.
Lori, who spent four months in jail pertaining to charges of abandonment, has continued to insist that the children are safe, which was a sentiment that was echoed by her family members on a recent episode of "48 Hours." During the episode of the CBS crime show, Lori's mother, Janis Cox, and sister, Summer Shiflet, stated that they did not believe she was capable of placing them in danger.
However, JJ's grandparents, Kay and Larry Woodcock, shared a different perspective during an episode of "Dateline." During the NBC program, they shared that they believed there was a "true issue" at hand. Others that were close to Lori at certain points revealed that she had previously held the belief that she was "a god" and a "translated being" as well.
At this time, Lori and Chad are under investigation for conspiracy, attempted murder, and murder related to the death of Chad's first wife, Tammy Daybell, who mysteriously died at the home in October. However, Chad is not currently facing any charges. As of the time of publication, no one has been taken into custody and police plan to remain on the scene for an undetermined period of time.
