KEY POINTS

  • The Los Angeles have signed Noah Syndergaard to a $13 million deal
  • Syndergaard is expected to be inserted into the rotation right away
  • Syndergaard is hoping to continue his bounce-back drive after dealing with injuries

Noah Syndergaard gets a fresh start with a new MLB team with reports that "Thor" has allegedly signed a one-year deal worth $13 million with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

This was revealed by unnamed sources on Wednesday, December 14 to MLB.com.

As of this writing, the deal remains unofficial since the Dodgers have yet to confirm the said deal.

Aside from the $13 million that the 30-year-old pitcher will be getting, the deal reportedly includes an opportunity for "Thor" to earn $1.5 million in performance bonuses.

Syndergaard began last season with the Los Angeles Angels, posting a 3.83 ERA and 64 strikeouts in 15 starts.

The right-hander was traded to the Philadelphia Phillies in August and his numbers fell off.

His ERA ballooned to 4.12 and he averaged 5.1 strikeouts per nine innings.

Moreover, he made nine starts in 10 appearances for the eventual World Series runners-up.

Syndergaard is hoping to recall his old form.

He had a fine start when he initially played for the New York Mets in 2015. However, injuries cropped up, hampering the run of the All-Star pitcher from 2017 to 2021.

In 2022, he was able to stay healthy and get things together. He first suited up with the Los Angeles Angels before getting traded to the Philadelphia Phillies.

Syndergaard underwent Tommy John surgery in March 2020 before the MLB season was postponed due to COVID-19.

An injury setback delayed his return for the 2021 season before he made two relief appearances for the New York Mets late in the season.

However, it appears Syndergaard was able to get things back on track last MLB season.

He went 10-10 with a 3.94 ERA in 25 appearances (24 starts) last season and helped stabilize a Phillies rotation that reached the World Series.

Syndergaard would be a sensible addition to the Mets and may be thrust into the team's rotation.

Walker Buehler is expected to miss the whole 2023-24 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery.

Aside from that, Tyler Anderson and Andrew Heaney also opted to take their talent elsewhere this offseason.

On Wednesday, the Dodgers also acquired right-hander J.P. Feyereisen from Tampa Bay in exchange for minor league pitcher Jeff Belge.
