KEY POINTS

  • Lebron James defeated the New Orleans Pelicans with a triple-double performance
  • New Orleans Head Coach Alvin Gentry had high praise for Lebron
  • Lebron is averaging 25.5 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 10.6 assists a game for the number one seed in the Western Conference

Lebron James is in his 17th year in the league and yet he’s still leading his team on top of the Western Conference. The number one pick out of St. Vincent-St. Mary high school in 2003 is still making a case for MVP in 2020. The Los Angeles Lakers are number one with a 46-13 record in the standings and are looking for a deep playoff run this year. They’re coming off from a win against the New Orleans Pelicans, 122-114.

Lebron displayed his full arsenal in that game as he tallied another triple-double with 34 points, 12 rebounds and 13 assists. The 35-year-old impacted the game in a variety of ways as he got his teammates involved while scoring the ball himself.

He also defeated the Pelicans without their star Center Anthony Davis. The former Pelican missed the game due to a sore knee. He is averaging 26.4 points, 9.4 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per outing in this season. Lebron’s win over the Pelicans showed that he asserted dominance over his former teammates as one Twitter user pointed out.

While it was a phenomenal output from Lebron, his matchup against rookie sensation Zion Williamson showed promise. Williamson notched a career-high in scoring with 35 points coupled with 7 rebounds.

Williamson’s efforts, however, were not enough as Lebron was still able to cruise the Lakers through victory. Pelicans Head Coach Alvin Gentry reacted to Lebron’s game against them as an MVP-caliber type of performance. “I’m just amazed that they talk about anybody other than him for MVP,” Gentry said. “Every team that he’s been into, every team that he’s gone, have a chance to win a championship.”

With the season reaching its end only the Milwaukee Bucks hold a better record than the Lakers. Giannis Antetokounmpo is also making his case for MVP with the Bucks leading the league as the only team to have 50 wins so far in the season. He’s close to averaging 30 points again with 13.8 rebounds and 5.8 assists. Lebron, on the other hand, is putting up 25.5 points, 7.8 rebounds and 10.6 assists per game.
