Louisiana Mother Heidy Rios Charged For Throwing Baby At Father's Feet
A 24-year-old woman was arrested after she reportedly threw her 3-week-old baby at his father’s feet during a fight. The woman, who was identified as Heidy Rios, hails from Terrytown in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, and has been accused of throwing her son and fracturing his skull, according to a report in an American newspaper published in New Orleans, The Times-Picayune/NOLA.com.
Rios was arrested Nov. 24 and booked with cruelty to a juvenile, as per the arrest report provided by Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office. The report also mentioned after the fight Rios’ boyfriend took the baby to a Children’s Hospital in New Orleans on Nov. 23.
The doctors at the hospital concluded the 26-day-old had a fracture in his skull and contacted the sheriff’s office. The infant's father, who has not been identified yet, told the detectives he had been arguing with Rios when she grabbed their son and threw him at his feet.
Rios told him, "Take your f-----g son."
After Rios’ boyfriend’s statement, police officers arrested and questioned her. At first, Rios denied holding the baby for the duration of the argument and claimed she had no idea how her son got hurt but upon further questioning, Rios changed her original statement and said though she had been holding the child, she did not deliberately hurt him. She told the investigators she “may have dropped the child” during the dispute.
Rios was then booked into the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center in Gretna. As of Tuesday, she was being held without a bond in the correctional center.
No information was provided about the infant’s condition except that his head injuries were not life-threatening, said Lt. Jason Rivarde, Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office spokesman.
In a similar case, a Pennsylvania woman was arrested Sunday and charged with homicide in the death of her newborn after her father found the infant’s corpse while he was putting up Christmas decorations. The woman, identified as 23-year-old Brittany Robinson, of Shenango, Lawrence County, told investigators she was unaware that she was pregnant until she gave birth to the baby Friday in a bathtub.
According to the report, Robinson was prosecuted and denied bail Monday.
Reports also stated the infant’s body was found in a garbage bag, which was placed in a crawlspace beneath a porch at the back of the house. The woman’s father, whose identity remained unknown, said he found the baby when he was hanging up Christmas lighting and running a wire under the porch Sunday afternoon.
Another incident of cruelty was reported by the Sun, when a 19-year-old student threw her newborn baby out of the dormitory window after secretly giving birth in her university room in Xi’an city, Shaanxi Province, north-western China.
The infant, whose gender was not disclosed, was later found by a security guard on campus and pronounced dead by hospital staff. The reports said while being questioned the woman told the authorities she got pregnant in February but kept it a secret.
