A woman shot and killed her neighbor, her four minor children before turning the gun on herself. The incident took place in Monroe, Louisiana, on Thursday (June 11) evening.
According to Monroe police, the incident happened at Parkview Apartments when the mother, identified as Brittany Tucker, shot her four children to death after she killed her neighbor.
Tucker’s first victim was her 20-year-old neighbor. Police said Tucker confronted the woman, identified as Antisha Logwood, and asked her "What are you laughing at?" before pulling out a gun and shooting her. After being struck by the bullets, Logwood fell to the ground and succumbed to her injuries.
According to the police, leaving Logwood in a pool of blood, Tucker then went back to her apartment and opened fire at her four children including an infant.
They identified the siblings as the 5-month-old Gloria Tucker, the 5-year-old Treasure Tucker, the 8-year-old Treshelle Tucker, and 12-year-old Tremayne Tucker.
Officials said the incident was so horrifying and heartbreaking, it devastated the officers who responded to the home after receiving calls about the shooting and arrived to find four young children laying dead. They needed to bring in a chaplain to talk to the officers about the incident.
The exact motive behind the slaying is still unclear.
Police said Tucker, who could have mental health issues, had legally purchased the gun just days before the incident. According to police, in recent days, she walked near the apartment complex waving the gun around.
The victims’ families were notified. No one could report where the children’s father was when the incident took place.
Interim Police Chief Reggie Brown believes this tragedy could have been prevented if someone had contacted the Monroe Police Department regarding the sighting and Tucker’s unusual behavior.
Brown put a word forward, encouraging anyone who is dealing with mental health issues or anyone who knows someone who is dealing with mental health issues to please call 911 or 211 for help.
This is an ongoing investigation and no further details were available at the time of this writing.
