It is normal for your blood pressure to go up and down throughout the entire 24-hour cycle. A steadily high reading, however, is a cause for grave concern. This is because constant high blood pressure can weaken the arteries, and their stretchiness may be affected. Over time, your arteries may become narrow and stiff.
When this happens, fatty materials found within your arteries may clog them up. Such a condition can cause heart attacks. This means it is important that you ensure your blood pressure stays normal.
Poor lifestyle choices can cause your blood pressure readings to shoot up consistently. Your diet plays a vital role in preventing this from happening.
Help from Milk
Certain food items have been proven to bring down blood pressure levels. A study that has been published in Circulation: Journal of the American Heart Association suggests that regular milk consumption can help keep blood pressure in check. Along with milk, you should also consume soy protein-based supplements as part of your goal to normalize your blood pressure.
The findings of the study put forward the suggestion that replacing portions of refined carbohydrates with drinks or food with high soy or milk protein content helps normalize blood pressure. Such can also be used to help prevent and treat consistently high blood pressure. This assertion was made by Dr. Jiang He, M.D., Ph.D., the study’s lead researcher.
Study participants, in a controlled clinical test, were asked to take milk protein supplements for the duration of the research. After the period is over, researchers found that participants who took these supplements enjoyed around 2.3mmHg lower systolic blood pressure as compared to when they had refined carbohydrate supplements.
Furthermore, participants who had soy protein supplements enjoyed 2mmHg lower systolic blood pressure when compared to the same period they had refined carbohydrate supplement. Systolic blood pressure is a number measuring the highest pressure when the heart beats and pumps the blood throughout the body.
This number offers an accurate indicator of the likelihood of suffering from a heart attack, which means it is important you maintain this at normal levels. Blood Pressure the UK reveals that a reading of 140 or over of the systolic blood pressure may indicate high blood pressure.
Researchers also found that although milk-based supplements caused the lowering of the blood pressure, refined carbohydrate supplements are not associated with any change in systolic blood pressure.
