Is ‘Lucifer’ In Danger Of Being Canceled By FOX? A Closer Look At Possible Season 3
“Lucifer” is halfway through its second season, but fans still have to wait for FOX’s announcement for a possible third installment.
After Tom Ellis-starrer premiered last year, “Lucifer” was picked up in April for a second season. A few weeks after it aired its new episodes, FOX confirmed a full-season order for the show for Season 2. This means that the series will have a total of 22 episodes that will air until 2017.
After the announcement, FOX entertainment president David Madden released a statement saying, “‘Lucifer’ continues to deliver with great blasts of dark humor an ambitious storytelling. The show has turned out to be a true wicked pleasure, the perfect companion to ‘Gotham,’ and we couldn’t be more pleased to order these nine additional episodes.”
Even though it is still very early to say whether or not “Lucifer” will be renewed for Season 3, TV Line came up with a list of TV shows that have been renewed or canceled. In their list for FOX, “Lucifer” received a “safe bet” ranking, which means the publication believes that the series will most likely be renewed for a third season.
When “Lucifer” returns with a new episode in January 2017, Lucifer (Ellis) will find out the truth about Chloe’s (Lauren German) identity. The latter happens to be a miracle child, and Lucifer’s mother, Charlotte (Tricia Helfer), will use this information as leverage to get Lucifer to return to Hell.
While speaking with TV Line, co-showrunner Ildy Modrovich said that Charlotte’s plans to use Chloe will be explained in the first episode of Season 2B. “We will definitely find out how she plans to use Chloe, right away. And since we know Mom will stop at nothing to get back her family, which includes Lucifer, she’s going to use Lucifer’s feelings against him. She’s going to weaponize those feelings, putting the relationship between Lucifer and Chloe in major jeopardy,” she said.
“Lucifer” Season 2 will return to FOX on Jan. 16, 2017 at 9 p.m. EST.
