Lyme Disease Symptoms, Treatment: Justin Bieber Says He Is Battling Bacterial Infection
Canadian pop singer Justin Bieber took to his Instagram on Wednesday to announce that he has contracted Lyme disease. He also revealed he has been diagnosed with a "serious case" of chronic infectious mononucleosis, which has taken a toll on his entire health.
Addressing some vile comments about his appearance lately, the singer said he appeared weak because of the disease.
“While a lot of people kept saying justin Bieber looks like shit, on meth etc. they failed to realize I’ve been recently diagnosed with Lyme disease,” he said. Further, he said the chronic mononucleosis badly affected his “skin, brain function, energy, and overall health.”
"It's been a rough couple years but getting the right treatment that will help treat this so far incurable disease," he added.
Lyme disease symptoms
Lyme disease is a bacterial infection caused by the Borrelia bacterium and is spread through infected black-legged ticks, according to the Centers for Disease Control. The symptoms of Lyme disease include “fever, headache, fatigue, and a characteristic skin rash called erythema migrans.” The symptoms are likely to show up around three weeks after a bite.
The disease is, however, not contagious.
Treatment method and prevention
Administering antibiotics for a few weeks can successfully cure the disease, according to the CDC. However, it can spread to joints, the heart, as well as the nervous system if it is not addressed in time.
Lyme disease can be averted by reducing tick habitat with the help of pesticides. Using insect repellants in homes will help keep the pests from spreading Lyme disease as well as other bacterial infections.
Bieber vowed to explain things further in an upcoming documentary series that will be released on YouTube shortly. “You can learn all that I’ve been battling and OVERCOMING!!” he said.
